Community Foundation of the Great River Bend Please give a brief overview of the project. Did the project differ in execution from the program presented in the proposal? Is so, How? LEAVE A LEGACY™ is a national initiative sponsored in Iowa by a coalition of community-based programs throughout the state as an ongoing educational campaign to encourage residents of Iowa and bordering communities to plan estate gifts to nonprofit organizations in their will or other estate planning instruments. The mission of LEAVE A LEGACY™ Iowa is to preserve and improve the quality of life sustained by programs and services of not-for-profit community organizations. The goal of LEAVE A LEGACY™ Iowa is to increase the number and amount of charitable estate gifts that benefit nonprofit organizations in Iowa and bordering communities. A statewide steering committee has been assembled. Ten regions have been established. Seven of the 10 regions are organized. The first statewide campaign is scheduled for November 2000. The grant is being used to underwrite the production of a LEAVE A LEGACY™ video to be used throughout the state of Iowa and bordering communities. What underlying problem did the program address? What impact, if any, did it have on the problem? Developing a statewide network has been a challenge. The goal has been to establish communication, coordination and collaboration while allowing local control and autonomy. We have had two statewide steering committee conference calls and the first face-to-face meeting is scheduled for September 7th. How many people were served? LEAVE A LEGACY™ Iowa is organized to serve the residents of the state. To date, the organization has had the greatest impact on regional steering committees. In addition, community informational gatherings have been held throughout the state. An estimate of the number of people who have been served is difficult due to the nature of the program. It is safe to say that direct face-to-face served would exceed 500. Indirectly, thousands. Do you plan to continue this project? If so, how will funding be secured? LEAVE A LEGACY™ Iowa is being planned as a long-term program. LEAVE A LEGACY™ Iowa is not a fundraising campaign. Rather, it is a program designed to increase the sense of responsibility among the citizens of Iowa and bordering communities – that helps preserve and improve their quality of life. LEAVE A LEGACY™ in Iowa seeks to support collaboration and communication throughout the state as well as coordination between local, county and regional community-based programs. A broad-based support network underwrites overall funding of the various local, county, region and statewide initiatives. The network of LEAVE A LEGACY™ Iowa support includes the following:
If you were to address the identified problem again, what changes would you make in your approach? N/A Please provide a comparison of budgeted expenses to actual expenses. The original grant will be combined with other funds to underwrite the production of a LEAVE A LEGACY™ Iowa. The video is scheduled for completion the end of September 2000. To date, there are no other funds to account for. Please attach any news articles or brochures related to the grant that were published. LEAVE A LEGACY™ Iowa has several public relations and marketing resources in the development stages. How could the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend have been more helpful? The Foundation’s support has enabled this valuable program in its early stages. No doubt, additional support will be a consideration in the year ahead.
