| 1. |
Decide to whom and why you would like to leave a legacy gift. Perhaps its music you love or the work of a particular organization you admire and have supported during your lifetime. You may also want to leave an estate (legacy) gift in memory of a loved one or for a specific use like medical research.
|
| 2. |
You may want to contact your favorite charities for more information regarding what opportunities are available to you and how your gift could enhance their work. You may also want to look at our list of nonprofit Partners to review their various lists showing the specific ways that your planned (estate) gifts could be beneficial.
|
| 3. |
Contact a professional advisor (such as an attorney, trust officer, CPA, insurance professional, broker, estate and financial planner) to seek information about the tax benefits of planned gifts. Remember however, that not all advisors have education and adequate experience to counsel you in this specialized area of estate and gift planning. If you do not have an informed advisor and need a referral, you can consult our professional advisor Partners list to locate one.

| 4. |
Review your personal planning (estate plan, will, beneficiary designations or asset title) to ensure that your charitable wishes are accomplished.
|
| 5. |
Complete a Statement of Intent Form to inform the organizations of your plans to include them in your estate and your specific desires for the ultimate use of your estate gift.
